Nativity Scene Bark Cloth Ornament (JEKO)

A miniature Jesus lies in the manager with Mary, Joseph and animals surrounding him in this unique bark cloth and grass thatched stable.  This hand made Fair Trade religious scene is made by people with disabilities with grass, wire, wood, card and bark cloth.  The height of the nativity scene bark cloth ornament is between seven and eight inches.

The inner bark of the Mutuba tree has been crafted by Bagandan artisans into cloth for over 600 years. This unique cloth should not be exposed to water but can be cleaned with a soft brush.

A unique example of African diorama of a miniature church scene.  The tiny church  building is made of bark cloth the roof is grass thatched. The figures are made with wires and  bark cloth and they stand in front of a cross.  Bark cloth has been produced in Uganda for over 600 years and is recognised by UNESCO in their heritage list.  The inner bark of the Mutuba tree is pounded to create this rare material which is nowadays  used frequently in craft production.
